Japanese Black Pine Bonsai – LDB31

A substantial and characterful Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii) with a powerful mature trunk, excellent bark development and an established branch structure.

LDB31 has a particularly strong sense of age. The rugged trunk, widening root base and mature bark give the tree presence, while the movement through the trunk prevents the upright form from appearing static.

The tree has undergone extensive structural work, with the main branches wired and positioned to establish a strong framework for its continued development. There is already good separation between the principal branches, allowing the trunk line to remain visible and providing plenty of opportunity to develop increasingly refined foliage pads over the coming seasons.

This is a serious development tree rather than raw material. Much of the difficult structural work has already been undertaken, leaving its next owner with the enjoyable process of building density, improving ramification and refining the overall silhouette.

Personally selected and styled by Andy Mook for Let's Do Bonsai.
